We left AGM at 9:17 am. it was shaping up to be another sunny, warm day. I didn’t sleep very well the night before. This usually happens when I know we are moving the next day. I also wanted to get up at 5:30 am. to phone Johnnie and wish him a happy birthday. Which I did but I was one day early!!! His birthday is actually February 22nd. What a nut I am!!! We arrived at Sam’s around 12:30 pm. and setup on site 208. We showered, did laundry and hit the hot tubs!!! I was so excited just to soak in a tub after spending a month in the desert!!! Immediately we hooked up and said hi to friends we knew would be at Sam’s!! Love this place!!!

We went into Palm Spring to Home Depot and Costco to get supplies. Tonight in the park is a wine tasting event so we are getting wine. There is always great appetisers as well with great music. We brought chicken wings and added our wine to the table and had a great variety to sample. We danced and socialised with old friends. Mary was there as well as Kathryn who are both from BC and Vince who lives at Sams. Lots of fun!!!!
February 23 – March 5, 2020
We have been hanging out a Sam’s with fantastic weather. Cleaning the sand off and out of the trailer. Steve and I both deep cleaned it. Cleaning windows, lights, walls and the rugs. The hot tubs and pool have been fantastic. I am taking the water aerobics class every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 am. It is more like water Zomba but it gives you a decent work out.

We hiked White Water Preserve today and the weather and hike was fantastic. It was about a 5 mile round trip. We went to Red Dome Rock which was just by the river and is just a gentle slope. This hike takes you on part of the Pacific Crest Trail and is a well marked hard packed hike trail. We took a lunch and had a picnic by the river.
March 7 – 11, 2020
Every day we swim and soak in the hot tubs. March 11th we had a barbecue in the park by the pool at Sam’s. It was a potluck and you brought your own meat to cook on the barbecue as well as a side dish and we brought a broccoli salad to share. A couple from North California brought their instruments to entertain us and we sang with them!! It was a lot of fun and they were fantastic. It was also one of the last social events we all had together before we had to social distance ourselves from each other because of Covid 19 and the Corona Virus.
March 12 – 14, 2020
Steve and I hiked up to flag mountain across the road from the park with Vince. It doesn’t get any easier every time we attempt it but it is a fantastic hike with great views and worth the trip!!! The Canadian Flag was missing though!!
March 15 – 17, 2020
Covid 19 has shutdown all large gatherings. Our plans to attend the Bishop Convergence at the beginning of April has been cancelled. Chris and Shannon were heading to Las Vegas to spend a week with their daughter and it was cancelled. They joined us at Sam’s for a few weeks so we all could decide what our next step was with this virus. Lisa and Arlo also met us at Sam’s before heading home to Indiana where their son has had to head home because schools and universities have all been closed due to the virus. March break in Canada has been extended by 2 weeks for a three week break to try and get a handle and more information on the virus. It seems like we are living in a bubble at Sam’s because the weather has been fantastic, the pool and hot tub is still open and not much at this point had changed for us. Toilet paper though in groceries stores is non existent as people as stocking up on it. We are not sure why though??
March 18 – 26, 2020
Chris, Shannon, Steve and I have been hiking across the road at Sam’s in the beautiful weather with the dogs, Shelby and Molly. We attempted to climb Flag Mountain again, but it was too much for the dogs. We walked to a local farmers market to pick up vegetables as they are stressing for everyone to stay home and self isolate. California has gone into lock down as well as New York and other states because of the high number of Covid 19 cases and deaths. On March 18th both Canada and USA close their borders to non essential travel and the Canadian government has suggested that Canadian’s who are abroad start making their way home taking precautions to keep safe. Steve’s parents have phoned asking us to come home because things aren’t looking good and they are worried about us. Canadian’s in Sam’s start leaving to head home as some of their insurances are going to expire. We have insurance paid until May 10th and have been told that if we chose to stay we would be covered.
Sam’s has now closed their pool and hot tubs and we have been told that we cannot socialise in groups that are bigger than 6 people. I am scared and worried for my kids, Mom and Steve’s parents. All non essential work has been cancelled and people are either working from home or not working at all. All restaurants have been closed and are offering take out only. We have been advised to stay home unless we need groceries. What is happening right now in the world is so unbelievable that it is hard to process and imagine it is true. Our plans for arriving home May 10th and travelling into southern California has now changed and we are heading home.
