Our Drive Home

March 30, 2022

We stayed overnight in the visitor center in Amarillo, Texas. It was quite full of RV’s. A couple of years ago we planned on staying here but because we were the only one’s in the parking lot we moved to the Flying J just over the interstate. The winds were still high and the temperature was only 46 degrees.

We stopped in Shamrock Texas off the I40 as the paneling on the side of the RV tore loose because of the high winds. Steve was able to synch the panel up with ropes to hold it until we could get to a Ace hardware and he could buy bolts to bolt it back up. We drove for 20 miles on historic Rte 66 to get to the Ace hardware. The screws had rusted out due to weather, water and just overall poor workmanship on the trailer.

We left the Walmart at 7:33 am. in Elk City, Oklahoma. It was sunny and the winds were light. This was a great Walmart, lots of parking and it was quiet. We are heading towards Memphis on I 40.

We are just east of Memphis on Interstate 40. We are running on fumes as Steve is trying to get the cheapest gas due to the high prices. We stopped at a truck station just east of Memphis and a truck driver left his truck at the pumps so we decided to head to the Flying J at the next interchange. Our GPS is telling us that I40 is backed up for 18 minutes ahead. Little did we know that we were in the middle of a police takedown and standoff with someone who stole a white truck and is carrying a gun. We have been on the I40 just east of Memphis for 7 hours. Steve and everyone around us has turned off their vehicle or we especially run the risk of running out of gas.

They finally let us all go on the I40 and we have arrived at Sam’s Club to sleep for the night. We left Sam’s at 8:24 am. head to Singing Hills RV and Campground, Kentucky for one night.

Some pictures of Nashville as we passed by.

We left Singing Hills RV and Campground at 10:15 am. The day was overcast and 53 degrees. We had a nice time at this park and toured the area. We supported a local pub and a local restaurant for ribs. We gave away 2 bottles of wine and our big bottle of rum to our neighbours who where very appreciative!!!

We spent the night in Toledo at the Bass Pro Shop. We were the only RV and it was wonderful. We were able to drop the trailer and got gas at Costco. We had dinner out and were up early to head to the border. We arrived Windsor Ontario at 8:03 am. with no problems crossing. So happy to be home and looking forward to meeting my new grand daughter!!!!
